For either of the Index Maps you can use the magnify tool on the Acrobat toolbar to expand the scale. This is NOT provided in the Web demonstration. Successive magnification to about 400% will reveal a fair amount of discernible detail. Beyond that, the resolution is insufficient for further exploration.

Each Index Map is sectioned into clickable areas. The Whole Town Index Map is sectioned into 15 rectangles by thick yellow lines. Each rectangle covers about 3/4 mile by 1/2 mile. Inside each rectangle is a red square. Clicking a red square will open a magnified view of the rectangle surrounding it, and this piece of the map can then be magnified by the Acrobat Magnify Tool to reveal the full details of the map. For Web demonstration, only one clickable rectangle is shown, and only one further magnification is demonstrated.

The 1891 Census Index Map is seen to have coloured polygons indicating the extent of each of the 18 Enumeration Districts. Clicking on the NUMBER inside a polygon will open a magnified map of the district. Again, this piece of the map can then be magnified by the Acrobat Magnify tool to reveal the full details of the map. For the Web demonstration, only the number '1' is clickable, and the resulting enumeration district view demonstrates only a single level of magnification.
